One of Calgary's elite neighborhoods, today we are focusing on the community of Mount Royal which is situated on the slope and crest of a hill, overlooking downtown Calgary with stunning homes, large lots, and beautiful tree-lined streets.
This inner city community in Calgary’s southwest, is home to the neighbourhoods of Upper Mount Royal (to the south) and Lower Mount Royal (the northern section) which are separated by an escarpment that runs along Cameron and Royal Avenues in an east-west direction. This diverse and vibrant inner-city community has a rich and interesting history, established in 1904 when the Canadian Pacific Railway subdivided the land into large lots.
The historic community of Upper Mount Royal is one of Calgary’s wealthiest neighbourhoods and is home to some of the city’s most expensive and luxurious homes. Ranging from the older character homes built by the railroad barons to newer contemporary showpieces. This exclusive luxury Calgary neighbourhood is one of the City’s most sought-after districts and was originally an enclave of the city’s American born business elite. The neighbourhood was originally known as ‘American Hill’. Over time, the area became more diverse, and the name "Mount Royal" became more widely used to reflect the community's Canadian identity. Despite its exclusivity, Upper Mount Royal is still a welcoming and tight-knit community, with many residents taking pride in the area's history and unique character.
In addition it's known for its trendy shops, cafes, and restaurants along 17th Avenue SW, which is often referred to as the "Red Mile." Mount Royal is also home to several parks and green spaces, including Tomkins Park, which features a playground and picnic area, and the Earl Grey Golf Club, which is one of Calgary's oldest golf courses
Overall, Mount Royal is a unique and desirable community that offers a mix of history, character, and urban convenience.
